This is fine Civil War Confederate cap box that is of classic southern construction and in excellent condition. The outer flap of this box is cut to a nice angular shape and is the style that has the closure tab sewn on as a separate piece. The closure tap has become un stitched but is still with the box. There is no inner flap on this box and was constructed without one.
There are no ears on the sides of the outer flap, and none were ever attached. At the bottom of the box is a brass, cone shaped finial which is still firmly attached to the piece. The reverse features the classic single belt loop normally found on Confederate accouterments of this type. The leather is firm and remains pliable and, with the exception of the stitching on the closure strap, all stitching is solid and intact.
This is a truly beautiful example of an extremely tough to find piece of Confederate leather.
