This button is in spectacular dug condition. There is still an ample amount of gilt on the face. This is the rare early Large Date SCOVILL Style. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer one for sale. I already have this particular style button in my collection or I would most definitely keep it.
GMI Buttons in nice condition are very tough to come by. The GMI was located in Marietta, Georgia (Modeled after West Point) and only in operation for less than 14 years. General Sherman burned the school in 1864 on his way to Atlanta (the school was never rebuilt). Please google Georgia Military Institute for a detailed description of the school.
