CIVIL WAR M1858 SMOOTH SIDE CANTEEN withCOVER & STRAP RECOVERED 1st MANASSAS

This is a choice Civil War Model 1858 smooth sided canteen that is complete with full strap and cover. The body has shallow dents to both sides and the pewter spout is unmarked. There is some light engraving on the spout that is hard to make out. Some letters and designs can be made out. Attached to the sling is a tag that reads, Union Canteen in uncleaned condition as found on the battlefield at 1st Manassas The chestnut brown wool cover is in excellent condition with only two small and insignificant spots of wear near one of the side sling loops. The linen sling is dark with age and with some fraying along the edges but remains strong, solid and unbroken. The overall condition of this canteen is excellent and way above those normally encountered.
