IT CONTINUED TO BE IN SERVICE DURING THE EARLY INDIAN WARS UNTIL 1872 WHEN A NEW DESIGN WAS ADOPTED. THE LEATHER IS VERY DRY WITH SURFACE CRAZING AND FINISH LOSS TO BE EXPECTED ON LEATHER THIS OLD.THE LEATHER COLOR IS BLACK AS IT SHOULD BE. THE STITCHING IS COMPLETE AND APPEAR SOUND BUT I CERTAINLY WOULD ADVISE NOT TO TUG ON THE LEATHER PARTS TO TEST IT. NOTE ALSO THAT THE BILLET KEEPERS ARE SOMEWHAT FLAT AND STIFF AND I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT TO ATTEMPT TO PUSH THROUGH LEATHER STRAPS.
THE IRON HARDWARE IS LIGHTLY RUSTED BUT CAN BE MOVED WITH SOME FINISH REMAINING. THE WOLLEN CLOTH HAS A FEW SNAGS.THE LARGEST ONE IS SHOWN UP CLOSE IN MY PICTURES. THERE IS SOME THREAD DISCOLORATION AND FADING FROM AGE IN SOME OF THE THREAD WHICH IS ALSO SHOWN UP CLOSE. A GREAT AND ANYMORE SELDOM FOUND ADDITION TO A CIVIL WAR CAVALRY DISPLAY. ALTHOUGH NOT PERFECT, IT WILL DISPLAY WELL IN YOUR COLLECTION. THEY INCLUDE A WIDE VARIETY OF MILITARY ANTIQUES. KEEP ME ON YOUR FAVORITE SELLERS LIST.
