This is a very nice example of an U. Civil War Foot Officer's Sword, Model 1850.
It is mounted with a beautiful blade that measures 31 inches in length which remains in very nice original condition with all of its gorgeous bright and frost etching still present and only some minor surface staining. The lovely brass guard is wonderfully detailed with floral pierced work and also remains very nice in its condition with a deep rich aged patina now developed but also with traces of the original gold wash still peeking through. The fishskin covered hilt has also survived wonderfully and still wears its original twisted wire wrap that although is now loose, does remain present. The brass fitted leather scabbard is a bit weathered to its leather finish, nevertheless remains in very good serviceable condition. Overall measuring 38 7/8 inches in length.
