AN ORIGINAL US ARMY ARTILLERY BIT AS USED DURING THE LATE CIVIL WAR AND INTO THE INDIAN WAR. THIS MODEL WAS REWORKED BY ARSENAL AFTER THE CIVIL WAR AND REISSUED DURING THE INDIAN WAR. ABOUT 50 % OF THE TIN FINISH REMAIN, SOME LIGHT WEAR AND A COUPLE OF SPOTS OF RUST. THE INSIDE OF THE SIDE BAR SHOWS THE "US" MARKING WHICH IS THE WAY THEY WERE MARKED WHEN REWORKED.
ALSO MARKED "US" ON THE MOUTH PIECE. NOTE THAT THE RINGS ARE ALSO MISSING FROM THE UPPER SIDE. I HAVE SEEN QUITE A FEW LIKE THIS AND SUSPECT THAT IT WAS A COMMON FIELD MODIFICATION. THIS BIT IS STRAIGHT AND THE LIP BAR IS ORIGINAL.
THE US BRASS BOSSES ARE SHARP. PLEASE REVIEW THE PICTURES PROVIDED TO EVALUATE THIS BIT. THEY INCLUDE A WIDE VARIETY OF MILITARY ANTIQUES.KEEP ME ON YOUR FAVORITE SELLERS LIST.
