US Civil War Model 1840 N. Ames Cabotville Type I Artillery Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is marked N. Ames" over "Cabotville" and "1846" on one side and "US" over "N. The grip and guard are tight, missing 90% of the leather wrap and almost all of the wire wrap, just a little remains by the pommel cap.The blade has been sharpened, age spots scattered throughout, the edge is lightly pitted towards the last 12 to the tip, and the tip is sharp. The scabbard is solid although it is covered in surface rust.
Colored rope hanging from the lower sword hanger ring. The leather washer is missing. Length of the blade is 32" (1 1/4" wide and 3/8" thick), the sword is 37 3/8", and in the scabbard it is 39. 1 of only 2400 swords dated 1846 and made by Ames.
