English iron breast plate, 17th century or earlier. Of the type used extensively during the English civil war and generally during the 17th century. No shot proof mark as found on the standard civil war types and I think this is earlier in date.

Splitting to the front ridge which looks to have been there for a very long time, possibly when made. Some signs of line decoration to sides. Black surface paint probably later in date.
