Civil War Etched Blade Sheffield Bowie (fighting) Knife in Original Scabbard. Knife measures 11 1/2" overall with 6 1/2" double edge spearpoint blade. Decorated with 5 etched panel on frosted background covering most of the obverse side of the blade with the scarce scrolled slogan reading. "THE AMERICANS PRIDE/EQUAL RIGHTS/EQUAL LAWS/AND JUSTICE TO ALL". Guard marked with two opposing "X" markings.
Blade retains much of the luster, with some scuffing on on both sides. The original Moroccan leather and felt scabbard with German silver throat and missing the tip & frog stud. Some partial gilt lettering remains possibly reading simply U. A very fine 1860's example of a rarely encountered period knife.
