The image on the obverse is borrowed from but not an exact copy of the Indian Head cent designed by James Longacre.

It features a young Native American with long hair and a feathered headdress facing to the left side of the token. Thirteen stars arch over the image with an empty space left on the bottom where the year of issue was printed on the penny. Dominating the reverse is a large inscription of the words &#####x201C;OUR ARMY, &#####x201D; a patriotic theme that honored those fighting for the North in the bloody war. The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) gave this token a grade of MS64 RD.

The RD indicates the color of the token, red, while MS64 is a grade given to coins and tokens that retain average luster, had average strikes, and have several small and possibly one or two larger contact marks. The slabbed coin was then encapsulated in a special holder with a card, carrying its story. This historic token is also accompanied by an authentic newspaper issued around the same time as this token!

It is in very good condition, and can be removed from its plastic sleeve in order to be read! This is a great way for you to read the same stories as people would have read during that time, and to learn more of the era. We cannot make any price adjustments after the sale is complete.
