1861 -1865 USN Civil War Sword M1852 W. Clauberg Solingen Germany
Civil War fine American Navy USN M1852 Naval Sword. In very good original condition blade was manufactured by W.

Clauberg of Solingen and is so marked. It was carried by ranking officers during the civil war.

Hilt is solid with no wobble. See the makers mark on the ricasso/knight. The blade is richly decorated on both sides with a military motif, American Eagle??

On cannon, 13 stars (States) anchor are displayed. Circa middle of 19th century guaranteed Civil War period.

13 stars are on the pommel for the States during that conflict. Leather scabbard is in good matching condition. Its brass drag on-serpentine edge.

Phrygian pommel cap is tight to the handle. Thin brass twisted wire is original and is in excellent tight condition.

The handle is covered in shark or ray skin and shows clean and untouched. I don't force the sword (see picture) all the way down into the scabbard although there is little resistance to do so, I prefer to be kind with this being the scabbard is over a century and half years old. Ive recently added a picture of the drag obverse showing a scratch. PRICED LOWER TO SELL than other 1852 models listed.
