Thirteen stars &###x2013; a poignant reference to the original thirteen states given the events of the time &###x2013; are arranged in a circle along the rim, save for a space at the bottom where the year of issue would appear on the government coin.

A Native American man faces the left side of the coin. The figure has long hair that runs down his neck, and a feathered headdress that rises to the upper right. The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) gave this piece a grade of MS65 RD, indicating that it is red in color and has several minor contact marks, possibly along with one or two major ones.
