Displays two of the most significant buildings related to the Civil War in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina - Fort Sumter and Castle Pickney. The Battle of Fort Sumter marked the beginning of the American Civil War on April 12, 1861. Castle Pinckney functioned as a prisoner-of-war camp and artillery position.
Printed by Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, which covered topics related to US politics from 1855 until 1922, later renamed to Leslie's Weekly. It is considered to be the first successful pictorial newspaper in America. All original, period hand tinted with aquatints.
