8 August McMinnville Tennessee1863 CIVIL WAR LETTER. 3rd Wisconsin Battery, also known as the "Badger Battery, " was an artillery battery that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. It participated in several major battles, including Stones River, Perryville, and Chickamauga.

During the Battle of Stones River Dec. 3, 1863, the 3rd Wisconsin Battery, under the command of Lieutenant Cortland Livingston, was part of Brigadier General Horatio P. Van Cleve's Third Division in the Army of the Cumberland. After Van Cleve was wounded, command of the division passed to Colonel Samuel Beatty.
