Abraham Lincoln CIVIL War Ohio Us Volunteer Discharge
During the War "One Hundred Day" Regiments were organized during National Emergencies, and patriotic Union men stepped away from their jobs to take up arms as "100 Day Volunteers". Many were already honorably discharged veterans with combat experience, others not having been trained or seasoned by prior service but willing to heed the President's Call for men. As a way to honor their service in times of Crisis, a large handsome Presidential " United States Volunteer Service Discharge Certificate" was issued to each man. An Original Certificate issued to Colonel William C Cooper, commander of the 142nd Ohio, December 15, 1864 with "The Presidents Thanks" The Discharge has a stirring Executive Mansion Address by President Lincoln acknowledging and praising the service of the men, "Having Honorably served as a a Volunteer For One Hundred Days" , naming the battles incl & service in The Shenandoah, The Peninsula, The James River, Petersburg & Richmond & the Battle of Monocacy. The Discharge has a large US federal eagle & American flag logo and bears the facsimile signatures of President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. The 16 x 13 Discharge is on heavy paper stock. Edge wear, Age stains, reverse with old tape and archival repair at the folds, Overall VG.
