American Civil War Surgeon's Fleam

This is a 100% completely original Civil War period surgeon's bleeder (aka "fleam"). This one is nicely marked on the blade with the maker G.

The blades are extremely sharp. The grips are made of real tortoise shell. The case's stitching is intact and tight and the leather still supple. Some worm damage on a couple of places along the grips edge but nothing serious and doesn't take away from the beauty of the grips.

Fleams were used since the Revolutionary War by field surgeons. A great piece of medical history from the Civil War period.
