American Mexican War CIVIL War Ames Officer Sword Inter Bellum Period C 1848-60

AMERICAN MEXICAN WAR CIVIL WAR AMES OFFICER'S SWORD SIGNED WITH MATCHING SIGNED SCABBARD THE INTER BELLUM PERIOD CA 1848- 1860. MOTHER OF PEARL GRIPS ONE GRIP HAS CRACKS IN IT CONSISTANT WITH AGE. A good example of a Mexican War also used during the Civil War period US officer's sword made by Ames. These are seen held by US and militia officers in period daguerreotypes. The blade is 32 inches long, double edged, with a spear point The etching is visible. The firm name, however, is clearly stamped on engraved brass scabbard. The scabbard is in nice shape presentation grade. The hilt consists of a knighthead pommel and mother of pearls grips. The chainlink knuckleguard linked to pommel and crossguard is intact. This is a nice sword of the Mexican War period also used during Civil War with patriotic motifs made by the most famous American sword maker. Ames is probably the most desirable maker amongst American sword collectors.
