American Mexican War CIVIL War Officer Sword Palmetto Pommel Confederate Carried

PRESERVING AMERICAN HISTORY, EXTREMALY RARE, ONE OF A KIND. THIS SWORD IS AN UNMARKED WIDMANN WITH THE GRAPEVINE MOTIFF FERRULE, THE BLADE IS HEAVELY DECORATED WITH GOLD ENGRAVINGS CUSTOM MADE FOR A SOUTH CAROLINA MILITIA OFFICER. THIS TYPE SWORD WAS ALSO USED BY EARLY CONFEDERATE FORCES EARLY DURING CIVIL WAR. FROM SOUTH CAROLINA ESTATE ALLEGEDELY CARRIED BY A CONFEDERATE MILITIA OFFICER IN THE BEGINNING OF THE WAR.

THE CROSS-GUARD DESIGN WAS VERY POPULAR WITH SOUTHERN MILITIA. The pommel is in the form of A PALMETTO POMMEL and his linked to the flat and flared branches of the crossguard by a chainlink knuckleguard. The grip is in good condition.

The blade is double edged and spearpointed. The scabbard is brass, decorated with two carrying rings for carriage. The brass hilt and scabbard have a matching, untouched, aged patina.
