Anti Slavery Abolitionist Owen Lovejoy Mathew Brady Civil War CDV Photo & Auto

(January 6, 1811 - March 25, 1864) was an American lawyer. He was also a "conductor" on the. Was murdered in November 1837 by pro-slavery forces, Owen, a friend of. Became a leader of abolitionists in Illinois, condemning slavery and assisting runaway slaves in escaping to freedom.

This is a rare Mathew Brady CDV of Owen Lovejoy in a Union uniform. He is standing, in a 3/4 pose, wearing an officer's frock with Colonel rank. CDV in good condition with only gentle signs of wear and very gently clipped corners. No creases, holes, bends or tears. Clipped signature reads very handsomely and boasts a lengthy period pencil inscription on the verso.

The signature is penned in period ink on period yellow paper and is in Excellent condition; stunning and crisp. No rips, tears, soiling, etc. CDV measures 4" x 2 3/8".
