Made in France this antique iron cannon would have been used either by a child as a toy or as a signal cannon. This is believed to be a rim fire cannon with a partial octagonal barrel which is shaped like a field cannon on two large wheels.
This predates the McKinlay tariff of 1893 as it has no country of manufacture on it but does have the word Depose which denotes it was made in France. During and just after the civil war the French along with Germany and Britain did not date their items which allowed them to supply to either side without repercussions after the war. Marked: Depose A great addition to any civil war, French or military collection. MEASUREMENTS The cannon measures 9.5" tall by 9" wide by 18 long.
The barrel measures 5 long. The cannon weighs 5lbs 9 oz.
CONDITION In fairly good condition considering it has been untouched for over 100 years. There is some play where the wheels are attached and the end of the metal carriage moves around (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
