Antique American Civil War Confederate Bowie Knife
An authentic Civil War Bowie knife This is a Classic, well made Confederate side knife w/3 clip point. The well used condition cannot hide the professional lines and workmanship. The well formed ricasso & fine saber ground suggests an experienced knife maker. Very similar confederate knives seen suggesting possibly a factory made knife. 4-1/2" cross guard and furrel is made of iron The 12-5/8" Blade has a hard, dark iron patina, mostly smooth w/scattered pitting. The edge shows a lot of nicks from hard camp use. The knife is 18 overall. The walnut wood handle has hand worn patina, a crack down the center and some dings but it's all pretty nice just a small amount of wiggle when you shake it. The 4-5/8 iron guard is a little loose. The pin and copper washers look like a later fix. The provenance that came with the knife states it was found in North Carolina in 1985; Wayne McNeese Collection.
