CIVIL War 101st Illinois Letter Killed In Action Peach Tree Creek Georgia
Captain Thomas B Woof commanded B Company of the 101st Illinois and was killed in action at Peachtree Creek, Georgia July 30, 1864 while leading his company. He is buried at Marietta National Cemetery, Cobb Co, Georgia. An Original Civil War Letter from Captain Thomas B Woof at "Lookout Valley" (Chattanooga Tennessee Siege) to his wife Lavinia, at Concord, Illinois, Dec 28,, 1862- informing her he has received her letters, is seeking a Leave of absence, to resign his commission due to his health, if his heath worsens he will come home shortly. He will get his surgeon's letter and resign in 10 or 15 days. "Colonel Fox told me he has asked Generl Thomas to get him assigned to "Recruiting" Officer" - if he receives that he shall come back to Illinois and spend a few months, if our regiment can send 2 officers home. He asks her to Give the children kisses for me and I hope to be home before long. He finished with Bye from T. B Wooff for the Present and and remember me to Mother and Father.
