Major Andrew Washburn was a notable Union Army officer and prominent Boston architect; in 1862 he was infamously charged with allegations that he called for General McClellan to declare a Military Dictatorship and replace Lincoln. In 1862 where he was in charge of constructing the Washington batteries, he was Court-Martialed and relieved of command until his former commanders petitioned Lincoln, attesting to his loyalty, the falsity of the accusations and his heroic combat service including the Battle of Fair Oaks where he was wounded in action. An Original copy Letter transcribing Abraham Lincoln's Eecurtive Mansion Order of Nov 17, 1862 restoring Major Washburn to service, originally written by John J Nicolay as Lincoln's aid, with added note by Wm Cassels that it is a "true copy". The circa 1880s Letter is written on the letterhead of a Boston bank.
