1st Massachusetts Infantry Colonel William Latham Candler, Brookline, Massachusetts was cited for his gallantry at the Battles of Fair Oaks, Antietam & Chancellorsville, as ADC to General Hooker. Colonel Candler commanded the unit in the fierce fights at Fair Oaks, Antietam and Chancellorsville. An original Letter from Colonel Candler at Boston, June 21, 1886 to General Joab Patterson, Concord, NH, re plans for special railroad fares for their 200 comrades traveling from Boston & Concord to Gettysburg.
