An Original Civil War Letter from Private William Plumley, of B Company at "camp 5 miles from Richmond Henrico" written June 23, 1862, a few days after before the 33rd fought in the Seven Days battles including Malvern Hill and Glendale. Private Plumley writes to his Mother- he received her letter just before he went on picket, and he recounts his travels, from Fredericksburg to White House (VA) and the Chickahominy, Richmond to Henrico. He reports he saw balloon ascents, and while on picket heard the rebels building forts across the River, and playing their brass bands. The deserters report they have been living on half rations, and no coffee.

He also reports the mosquitos might carry him away, and signs thy affectionate son Wiliam Plumley, with a postscript - he encloses 4 Confederate notes. Age stains, edge wear, Overall VG. Comes w service info- Private Plumley was mortally wounded at the Battle of Antietam and died 2 days later. The33rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, also known as the 4th PA Reserves served 3 years combat combat incl the Seven Days Battles as well as the Battle of Antietam.
