CIVIL War 39th Massachusetts Casualty Report Siege Of Petersburg
The 39th Massachusetts was a hard fought unit during the 1864 Cqmpaign against Richmond, taking heavy losses at the Battles of Spottsylvania (Laurel Hill), the June Assault on Petersburg and the Battle at Weldon Railroad, and in 1865 fought at Hatcher's Run, ending the Wart in the pursuit of Lee's Army to Appomattox, in total losing 239 men to action and disease. An Original Civil War Return for Company h, 39th Massachusetts Infantry for the month of July, 1864 denoting the numbers of men present for duty, also numbers absent, missing, wounded, with names of the 25 men and an officer still absent due to wounds received from May to June, 1864, a soldier died of wounds, men absent at various hospitals, etc..
