An Original Civil War letter from James C Hastings of B Company, 12th Regt PRVC (41st Pennsylvania Infantry) at HQ Company B, 12th Regt PRVC, April 2, 1864- to Mr A. Pickham requesting aid in collecting his bounty promised given to Veteran Volunteers who have re-enlisted. Private Hastings enlisted in 1861and served with the 41st Pa to April, 1864, taking part in heavy fighting at 2nd Manassas and at Fredericksburg, Virginia, along with his brother William.
He then re-enlisted with the new unit, the 190th Pennsylvania, formed from old 41stth Pa. And was promoted to Corporal.
Two weeks later Corporal Hastings was Killed in Action in the fighting in Dinwiddie County and buried on Avery's Farm. His remains now lie at Poplar Grove National Cemetery, Petersburg.
Brother William survived the War. Comes w service and family info for Private Hastings, a native of of Wyoming County, Pa. 2pp 8 x 5 ink letter has folds, age stains, and is Overall VG.
