An Original Civil War letter with some unusual content from Colonel Moore at New York, August 21, 1863 to his "Dear Friend" Captain Charles A Moore of Company G (who is at Morris Island besieging Fort Wagner) re news of various officers including the promotion of Captain MacDonald over him, and assures him it was done in belief that it would benefit the service best. He encourages him to bear up, and hopes to promote the Captain to Major of Nicholson's regiment to reward him for his faithful service. " He also reports that his wife has FALLEN IN LOVE with the Captain's wife but it is no danger for "alarm or jealousy. Finally he is cheered by the successes of General Gillmore and hopeful for the quick downfall of Fort Sumter and Charleston, and he reports the orders of General Jackson at Rikers Island re filling the regiment with conscripts- he hopes to fill up the 47th with New York men. 4pp ink, 8 x 11, minor edge wear, age stains, Overall VG.
