

The Second Alabama Cavalry served from 1862 to the War's End, forming part of President Davis escort into Georgia where it surrendered at Forsyth, GA. Lt Frank Forrester Shortridge of Shelby County, Alabama served 2 years with the 2nd Alabama Cavalry, and was Killed in Action at the Battle of Atlanta. He is buried back home in King Cemetery, Shelby County, Alabama. An Original Civil War Letter from Frank F Shortridge at "Wildwood", Nov 5, 1861 to John S Stoors at Montevallo, Alabama asking him to write John P Morgan and recommend him as a nominee for the "Confederate Cadetship".
He reports his Father thinks the Legislature will be influential in making appointments and he is anxious to become a cadet and " Pa and Ma are willing", and asks him to and please send the recommendation to Mr Morgan.
