Civil War Cavalry Sword Saber Model 1860 Ames Dated 1865

This is a good example of a U. Civil War Cavalry Sword Saber, Model 1860 by Ames and is dated 1865. It is mounted with a blade that measures 34 3/4 inches in length. The blade remains in nice condition with some minor surface staining and continues to wear good, clear markings which includes the AMES logo on one side and U. 1865 on the other side.

The brass guard remains very nice as well with a lovely aged patina now developed and reflects an old period lead field reinforcement tightening at the pommel. The healthy leather wrapped hilt shows only light wear to the leather finish and still wears its original twisted wire wrap securely in place.

The metal scabbard also remains very nice in its condition with very light staining and a couple of very minor dings. Overall measuring 42 5/8 inches in length.
