Civil War Cutlass Sword & Rare Orig Leather Scabbard, Nice Decorator, Combat Use

Nice EARLY Civil War or Earlier Naval Cutlass Sword & Rare Original Leather Scabbard, Shows Combat Use. Nice, original FULL LENGTH, COMPLETE Civil War Naval cutlass and original leather scabbard and belt frog. A VERY SCARCE RIG TO FIND ALL TOGETHER!!

I have included a variety of photos for you. Civil War style, but heavy blade construction and could be earlier than the Civil War, possibly Mexican War or the 1850's. Nice to find a complete early sword like this in fairly decent shape. Blade is in very good condition, clean, and bright.

Has some nicks on the cutting edge which would result from sword to sword use. Hilt shows use, but is in very good condition overall. Hilt also has several dents in the heavy brass knuckle guard, right where you would expect to find them FROM ACTUAL USE AND COMBAT. Has original black leather grip.

Also very scarce in that it still has the original leather scabbard and belt frog. In pretty good condition for leather that was used so long ago. Leather scabbard did not hold up well from use, from age, and they often simply became separated from the sword.

Scabbard is missing about an inch of the very tip, but otherwise decent. Scabbard is held together and re-inforced by a series of brass rivets, helping it keep it strong when the sword is not in it. Stitching is tight in the frog. Some flaking, but again, not bad for something that was used heavily. Really detracts in a way from a sword this early and this complete, AND IT HAS A GREAT LOOK. REALLY NICE AGED BRASS PATINA TO THE HILT AND HANDLE AND RIVETS AND MAKES A GREAT DECORATOR. FULL LENGTH BLADE, MEASURING 25 1/2 LONG, WITH NO BREAKAGE. Would make a great addition to ANY SWORD OR CIVIL WAR COLLECTION OR DISPLAY.

IT WOULD ALSO MAKE A GREAT DECORATOR ON A WALL, OVER A FIREPLACE, ETC. In a living room, family room, Man Cave, or office, etc. Even for a non-sword or non-Civil War collector, it still MAKES A GREAT EARLY ANTIQUE MILITARY DECORATOR FOR ANYONE!! Blade measures 25 1/2" long, while entire sword measures about 31 1/2" overall.

No manufacturing markings that I can find, just'II at the throat of the blade. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Knives, Swords & Blades\Swords & Sabers\Other Collectible Swords".
