Civil War Era Belaying Pin from an Old Sailing Ship
Belaying pins were an essential part of the traditional rigging system on sailing vessels. The example featured here measures approximately 17 3/4 long, and appears to be oak. While I have no provenance on this particular belaying pin, it is very similar to three specimens that were said to be from the USS Constitution - likely placing this particular example within the first half of the 19th Century 1800 - 1850. The pin remains in excellent condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. There is a large cut in the head of the pin, as seen. Please see the pictures for more detail. Guaranteed 100% authentic in every respect for life. Be sure to see my other listings for more historical antiques and militaria. Be sure to follow my store as new inventory is added daily.
