CIVIL WAR ERA SOLIDER DAGUERREOTYPE PHOTO PHOTOGRAPH in THERMOPLASTIC UNION CASE
In very good to excellent condition. No missing parts or major damage. When the photo is removed & held up to a light source a few small spots/holes of light shinning through can be seen. These spots cannot be seen when the photo is in the case. One small chip to the thermoplastic "Union Case" in the upper right-hand corner of the front section.

The felt & cardboard frame around the brass preserver metal mat is worn and not aligned properly (likely from being removed to examine the interior of the case) and needs to be expertly re-installed. The felt cover of the left side of the case interior has one small tear hole.

Use the "SUPERSIZE" feature for each photo, as the photos often can illustrate the items condition better than any words can. Remember that the photos constitute part of the overall description. Please read the description completely & carefully view all photos.

CIVIL WAR ERA SOLIDER DAGUERREOTYPE PHOTO PHOTOGRAPH in THERMOPLASTIC UNION CASE. This could be an ambrotype photo! This photos has characteristics of both types. Any help in identifying the photo type (or providing info on the subject) is appreciated. The photo is: On glass, With a silver, mirror-like border edge, With a black-coated backside, Inside a folded-around ornate brass preserver, With a felt-lined paper frame, Inside a thermoplastic "Union" case.

The subject is: A young man with slicked-down hair, Wearing a suit with a buttoned-up collar & a vest, Holding some type of Colt revolver. The revolver is definitely a early Colt and appears to be one made in the 1860's. Supersize the photos to examine the details of the revolver.

The soldier is in plain clothes, but he is holding what appears to be a 1986's Colt revolver pistol. PLEASE NOTE: I only have the word of the previous owner that this is a Confederate soldier in the photo.

To me, he looks like just a everyday person in a suit and holding a gun. However, this pose was one that was often affected by soldiers (and outlaws).

The previous owner's explanation makes sense because why would a normal citizen be photographed in his best Sunday suit and holding his gun? Please fully read my terms & conditions below the listing; ESPECIALLY international customers. Structure/Composition: Photo was very carefully removed for examination and then re-installed. The image is on glass with a black-coated backside.

The interior case side opposite the photo has a cushioned ornate felt covering. Bout 3 inches (7.5cm) tall by 2 inches (5cm) wide and ½ inch thick.

Preserver mat frame and glass image is. Bout 2 inches (5cm) tall by 2½ inches (6.5cm) wide and ¼ inch thick.
