Civil War Era Braided Leather Quirt. Former property of a female relative born in 1845. Reputedly gifted to her from her father, who used it while serving as a teamster with the 1st Georgia Cavalry during the Civil War/War Between the States. At one time, the item would have included a leather flapper/strap/tassel/teaser, attached through the eyelet-tip; when this attachment disappeared is unknown; provenance simply indicates that it disappeared well before 1922, when item passed to my grandfather.
Please note that the drawing of Robert E. Picture (within the matting) measures 10.5" x 13.5".
