Historic Faneuil Hall, Boston was known as Boston's Cradle of Liberty for it's Revolutionary War era activities, and HQ for America's oldest Artillery Company, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company. During the Civil War it became the HQ for the Union Army Quartermasters Office at Boston. An Original Civil War Furlough Order issued at Faneuil Hall, Boston, Aug 10, 1865 regarding transportation for Sergeant RB George, Company M, 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery, signed by Captain Charles Barnard as QM.

Comes w service info- Sergeant Robert B George of Newburyport, Mass served in the 48th Mass Infantry in 1863 taking part in the Siege of Port Hudson, Louisiana. In 1864 he served w the 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery Company M and was wounded in the battle of Southwest Creek, North Carolina in March 1865, and mustered out Sept, 1865. 1p 8 x 10 pd/ink.
