CIVIL WAR FIGHTING KNIFE BY ROGERS, SHEFFIELD withLADY LIBERTY GUTTA PERCHA HANDLE

This is a beautiful Civil War side knife that remains in excellent condition. The overall length is 10¾ inches with the blade measuring just under 6-inches in length and 1½ inches in width. The ricasso is marked'William B. The cross guard is of brass and measures 2-inches from tip to tip. The black handle is of gutta percha and features a raised cross hatch pattern. Superimposed over this is an oval with an effigy of Lady Liberty standing next to an American flag shield with a spread winged eagle atop and with the legend'LIBERTY' above. The oval is with a beautiful floral design above and below. This motif appears on both sides of the handle.

The gutta percha sandwiches the tang of the blade and is held tightly in place by four small domed rivets. The blade exhibits some minor stains that do not distract from the overall beauty of the piece. A fine example that remains in excellent and undamaged condition.
