Civil War Foot Officer Sword Saber Nice Etched Blade J. P. Fitch NY

This is a good example of a very nice Model 1850 Foot Officer Sword Saber that dates from the U. It is mounted with a lovely etched blade that measures 32 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with just some light surface staining and continues to wear all of its beautiful etching on either side.

This import blade is also marked by the maker James P. Fitch New York as well as wears the logo of Clauberg on either side of the ricasso. The lovely brass guard has survived in outstanding condition and is intricately detailed with cut out floral design framing a very healthy fishskin covered hilt that continues to wear its original twisted wire wrap still securely in place. The guard has now beautifully patined with age and remains nice and tight in its condition. The brass fitted Metal scabbard has also survived well with a rich aged patina also developed. Overall measuring 40 inches in length.
