Doctor Erwin J Eldridge of Starkville Georgia served as Assistant Surgeon, Howell Cobb's 16th Georgia Volunteers and eventually as Chief Surgeon of the Georgia Reserve at Macon. She is gratified to receive his letters, 2 letters from him since he left. She has found his ribbed coat and has "ripped in up to have it turned", to send it to him.

She received with thanks the crackers and riding whip, asks if he can get her 8 yards of dark "homespun" in Macon to make herself a riding skirt. The children are almost well, General Grave is making arrangements for a picnic & dance, friends are coming for a "lively time". She hopes he will come home Christmas, She apologizes for her short letter but is going for a ride after dinner, Having run out of room she ends on front page margin "With my warmest love always believe me to be your own loving Emma", with a brief, cryptic postscript "I don't want a horsetail". 2p 8 x 6 ink age spots, folds, Overall VG. Comes with service info & bio for Surgeon Eldridge- at time of this letter Dr Eldridge was lo leave, at Americas, Georgia helping care for Union POWs at Andersonville Prison.

The letter comes with it's original postal cover, w age stains, the stamp has been cut off, addressed to Dr E. Eldridge care of Genl Cobb- Macon Georgia. NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed.
