Civil War Lap Desk Lt. I. Park

Vintage antique Civil War Era mahogany laptop desk of Lt. Leather writing area; multiple compartments for letter opener, brass cap glass ink well (never opened by me), small white porcelain bottle dated 1892, key to desk, note inside desk identifying the desk as a Civil War lap desk for soldiers, prescription label and removable writing instrument compartment. This desk has numerous handwriting on wooden areas in the interior areas.

Example: "T Park" appears in large dark writing and above it is handwriting indication Thomas Park Lieut. ; birth dates of children, his mother and father. The writings have faded with time and are not easily photographed. In addition a prescription was located in the desk from Herbert F. Lee - Dispensing and Family Chemist, Compound, Eucalyptus, Methol and Cocaine; Throat Pastiller (sic) which was on High Street in Honiton Parish, Devon, England (included).

The leather writing area is very fragile. The veneer in the lower left corner of desk is intact but loose and one piece of dovetail at hidden drawer is loose. I have not made any repairs. SPECIFICS: Length: 18 inches; Width: 9 3/4 inches; Height 6 inches - when closed.

Interior writing area including storage area for ink well, writing instruments, etc. Is 20 inches by 16 inches. Desk has three inlaid brass corner reinforcements on each corner of the desk. The desk has normal scratches and marks from obvious use. Please see photographs for more particular description.
