An Original Civil War Letter bearing the printed logo of Office of Judge Advocate Department of Virginia" Advocate General, Department of Virginia, April 17, 1865 to "Colonel Evans, 20th New York Cavy Provost Marshal " asking if he can spare more blanks for the " paroling of prisoners of war as he has a very large number waiting. Colonel David M Evans, 20th New York cavalry is shown in a Library of Congress pencil sketch giving the Oath in the Capital at Richmond to Lee's soldiers. Major Joseph Lewis Stackpole, 24th Massachusetts Volunteers served as Judge Advocate in the Union Army Infantry. 1p 8 x 11 ptd/ink. NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed.
