William H Tooley and Brother Horace H Tooley enlisted together at Granviille, New York, August,, 1862 for 3 years service with the 123rd New York. An Original double letter, written by both brothers, Sunday, April 26, 1863 to their brother Eber Tooley. The Letter is written on one 4pp sheet, the first 3pp from from William, the last 2pp from Horace. He wishes Eber was down "to Dixie", to see us, as it will be next winter before we can get a furlough. We expect to march to Fredericksburg with 8 days rations and 60 rounds of ammunition.
He sends a ring he made and asks Eber to have it gold-plated. He reports they march in the morning, and signs William A.

Horace was mortally wounded at Dallas, Georgia in 1864 and is buried at Marietta National Cemetery, Georgia. William was killed at "Avent's Creek" (Aikens Creek, south of Raleigh, North Carolina), April 10, 1865 in a skirmish with Johnston's Army. He is buried at Wilmington National Cemetery, NC. 4pp 8 x 5, w folds, age stains,, archival repair on bottom of fold, and a few red ink notations, Overall VG. General Orders and other imprints.
