It is with great pleasure that I sit down to right you a few lines to let you know that we got here safe. We went to Albany Friday. Staid one night and one day.
We had a very good time. We had a safe place to live.
We had bread and beer and we live in a very nice house. I tell you there was about 1 inch of dirt on the floor, no glasses in the windows. We slept all night on that clean floor. I should not say sleep, but lay down. We started from Albany Saturday and came back here to Troy. We had a steamboat ride. Girls you ought to be here yesterday and seen all the people there was here. There was about 10,000 people. There was a lot of ladies and girls.I suppose you would like to know what causes us up in the morning. Well, we have a little canon about 8 feet long which is fired at 5 o'clock. We then get up and go on drill 1/2 an hour. I think that Albany is a nice place, but I rather live here in Troy.
We expect to stay here two or three weeks, then we are going to New York. Girls I tell you that we have a lot of fun here for we sing till after midnight every night. We are about 5000 soldiers. Tie some of them up most every day.
There was a couple like to get killed here night before last. Dear sisters, I must close these few lines for the present so give my love to all my friends, but keep a good share for yourself.
Four pages written in pencil, but very readable.
