
An Original Civil War Order from Captain FJ Porter, at "Hqtrs Roanoke Island", April 12, 1862 to "Mr Daniels", ordering him to send a buggy to Camp Reno with a sick man who is stopping at the" Fortress". The 1p 7 x 3 ink note is signed by an officer as Post Commander. Wrinkles, age spots, edge wear, and from a Civil War era scrapbook, with an 1854 newspaper clipping on the reverse of the album sheet. The Fortress likely refers to Fort Hatteras, located on Roanoke Island.
Camp Reno was established by by troops of and named for, Brigadier General Jesse Reno, commander of the 2nd Brigade, Burnside Expeditionary Force who landed and fought at Hatteras during this period. Comes w a copy of a letter from a 9th New York Infantry Soldier at Camp Reno, Roanoke Island, also April, 1862. This is the first Camp Reno item I have ever seen in my 5 decades as a collector.
