Thibodaux Louisiana was an important military post during General Richard Taylor's Louisiana Red River and Teche Campaigns, and the site fof the Battle of Lafourche Crossing. An original Civil War Receipt for pens and writing supplies for a "Military Commission" convened at " HQ, District Lafourche", signed twice by QM Captain PH Goode, 4th Iowa Battery and signed as approved by Lt Colonel Austin Scruggs 78th US Colored Troop, as Post Commander at Thibodaux, June 22, 1865..

Captain Philip H Goode, a resident of Glenwood, Iowa served the entire war, first with the 15th Iowa Volunteers and was wounded in action along with nearly of his 200 comrades of the 15th Iowa at the Battle of Shiloh. He re-upped in 1863 as Commander of the 4th Iowa Artillery.
