CIVIL WAR U. S. OVAL BELT BUCKLE withARROW HOOKS GROUND RECOVERED IN RICHMOND

This is a fine and completely original American Civil War U. Oval Belt Buckle that is in excellent, ground recovered condition. This is the'football' style buckle with a brass face that exhibits a beautiful, smooth, even chocolate brown ground-dug patina, the brass exhibiting a few minor dings from actual field use.

The reverse is with a perfect set of arrow hooks and a thick, tapered belt hook. It retains approximately 95% of the lead filling and is still with traces of the earth from which it was excavated. There are no digger's contact marks on the plate and it retains a perfect contoured shape. This buckle was recovered in 2002 off Kingsland Road near Four Mile Creek in Varina, Virginia just outside of Richmond.
