Civil War Union US Navy Officer's Jacket Original

The 1864 US Navy Regulations allowed officers to wear a short jacket such as this one as service dress. The navy blue/black wool garment has a rollover collar and is lined with the appropriate black silk serge and is nicely quilted. Two pockets are in the breast. The sleeves feature the typical Civil War era flared elbows and narrow cuffs which are lined in white cotton with thin red striping. The collar and front edges are edged in narrow black tape. There are two rows of nine Navy officer's buttons on each side, marked on the back Scovill Mfg. Condition is excellent with no mothing and inconsequential wear. The lining has a couple of rips to the silk.
