In 40+ years of collecting artifacts from the Civil War this is the most unusual cartridge box I have ever owned or seen. The box is leather and has a flap at both ends with a brass finial in the middle.
It has two brass strap loops to son each side. Each end it has a tin frame with tubes that holds 16 cartridges for a total of 32 cartridges. This box has a torn closing tab but is in excellent solid condition. The box measures 6" by 7" by 2 closed and must have been either a patent model or experimental design.
