DAILY EVENING BULLETIN JUNE 29 1861 Bakers Calif Regt, Troops Move Through Phila

A very interesting and original edition of the Daily Evening Bulletin (Philadelphia) from June 29, 1861. The paper is 8 sides (4 unconnected sheets) with unique insight into early Civil War activity.

Some of the articles are: The war, movement of troops through Philadelphia - Baker's California Regiment - The Jersey Brigade - The arms seized in Baltimore - The Canada rebellion - The base ball match between the Olympic and Athletic - The stolen steam frigate Merrimac in the hands of the Rebels - Late from Fort Pickens - Key West and the Gulf Squadron - The expedition from Cairo into Missouri - The Southern rebellion, The skirmish near Cumberland - A controband is fully frightened - Recruits from Ireland - The War Congress - The late Commander Ward (slain on board the Freeborn) - A skirmish near Fall Church - Statement of a captured South Carolina volunteer - Let us alone, catching Tartary - Freedom and it's price - The affair at Matthias Point, full particulars of the death of Capt. Ward - Rebel account of affairs near Winchester and other articles along with a variety of advertisements. The paper has some darkening from age, the paper is a bit fragile.

The front page has a hole where the folds meet, edges of the paper show some tears. Pages measure 22" 15 1/4". Please see the photos for details.

Great reading and a unique paper containing many obscure particulars from the early period of the Civil War. Don't forget to see my other listings.
