Beautiful hand made iron D' guard. It would be the centerpiece of any Civil war collection. Blade has been cleaned up a bit, and has a soft oil rub, as many museums do. So all you blade-patina experts (zero knowledge know it alls), should pass on this one.
Many of you wanna-be relic experts like to think you have special skill and knowledge on Bowie knives, when in reality the wanna be in nothing more than a meddler. This "D" guard Bowie knife was on display at the old New Gate prison Museum, in East Granby, CT more many years. It was a private museum. George Washington kept revolutionary war prisoners there. New gate was a colonial prison and a copper mine, and opened as a prison in 1705.
My price on this fantastic "D" guard Bowie knife is a giveaway. The item "Fantastic Confederate Civil War D guard Bowie Knife" is in sale since Thursday, April 12, 2018.
