DESCRIPTION: This is a nice example of a classic original Antebellum/Civil War/Victorian period Carte de Visite photo album.

Used to hold carte de visite size photos, the most popular photo medium of the day. THIS ONE IS EXTREMELY SPECIAL AS IT IS VIRTUALLY FULL OF ITS ORIGINAL PERIOD CdVs!! Also, EXTREMELY UNUSUAL AND RARE IS THAT MANY OF THE PHOTOS HAVE NAMES HAND WRITTEN BELOW. Several of the men appear to be wearing coats, like ministers. One of the men is identified as "Professor".

Many of the people are holding or wearing glasses, and look like teachers or professional people. One of the women also has MATRON OF THEO'S METHODIST UNIVERSITY SCHOOL IN BOSTON, MASS. It also has some period newspaper clippings put in the front by the owner. This is a large album, containing. 25 pages, with room for 2 standard size carte de visite photos per page. THIS ALBUM IS 95+% COMPLETE, MISSING ONLY 2 CdeVs, WHICH IS VIRTUALLY UNHEARD OF. The photos are mostly CdeV's, with a couple of tintypes. NICE BROWN LEATHER EMBOSSED PATTERN ON THE FRONT & BACK, gold trimmed pages, and a matched pair of perfectly working original brass hinges (One or more of these hinges is often missing), but BOTH OF THEM ON THIS ALBUM ARE PERFECT.

It is in very good condition overall, including binding and covers and pages. Cover is a little worn on one of the sides from use, but still nice. It is one of the scarcest overall that I have ever had.
